I am – PhD Candidate of the Day
About
I was born in 1976 in Mola di Bari, a small town in the south of Italy, where I lived with my mother Maria, my father Mario, my sister Flavia, and my dog Virgola. Eventually I grow up and I left for THE CITY: Milan. I was very scared but excited at the same time. I was leaving the blue sea and the ancient olive trees to follow a dream but it was time … In the teeming city, life has a different shape: fast rhythms, thick smog, deep cold, hard academic work … some friends. Four years passed in a “two shakes of a lamb’s tail [Pulp Fiction]” and I had to leave again. This time for THE COUNTRY: USA. Me, a tiny girl, always cold, was going to Boulder Colorado, up in the mountains, under a soft mantle of snow. This time I was too scared to be even excited a bit. My English was horrible: I could speak so little and understand even less! But I made it! I worked at BioServe Space Technologies for almost one year and I really loved my job there. They made me feel useful for the first time of my life. It is such an awesome experience. Thanks Alex (my boss) and everyone else I shared this year with. And now my last (for now) jump: graduate school. Thanks to Angel and Nivea I found the energy for a new adventure: Santa Barbara, CA.
