Many pop bands won’t be played years from now but they’ll still be playing songs from the 50′s, 60′s, 70′s and 80′s as they are now & have been since. Pop is sugar & like sugar is sweet at first but then it’s just sickening and will dissolve never to be remembered.
Sure there’s plenty of current teens & tweens that will listen & pay for it now but come a few years they’ll wonder & realize that it was pretty stupid of them, a sort of slow buyers regret.

to compare the monkees with the corporate bs that is put out now is totally unfair.

3 out of the four monkees had strong backgrounds in music…two were accomplished song writers and mickey learned to write songs (randy scouse git is a brilliant tune)

the boys wanted to play on their albums, but like many bands of the day, were told that they would have to use studio musicians…who happened to be the wrecking crew. and you might be shocked on how many albums the crew actually played on.

the monkees also had other great songwriters working with them…which is why their music continues to be relevant 40 years later.

there is no way that ladie gaga, the jonas bros, hannah montana or the peas will be played in 40 years

perez may be right about music today…but he isnt original about it, and could very well be using his bully pulpit to pimp kids and bands that truly have talent….many who remain undiscovered and post on youtube (there is an amazing 14 year old girl who plays a mean blues guitar…i think she is the resurection of muddy waters)
