I know a lot of you guys don't like the nba cuz the players are spoiled, etc etc, but if you DO like the nba, we can talk about it here.

Heat fan here, looking forward to the season.

With all the trades and players leaving their teams during the offseason, I'm confused as to exactly who's on which team, but with the start of fantasy basketball, im getting more acquainted with the new looks of teams.

(ie Brand in Philly, Baron a Clip, Yi Jianlian with the Nets, RJeff with the Bucks, Jermaine on Toronto)

Anyway, post ur teams and maybe playoff predictions?

If anyone cares, I'll put mine up:

EAST

1. Detroit Pistons (great regular season team, can't win in the playoffs anymore)
2. Boston Celtics (lost Posey, but same starting 5, so they'll be competitive)
3. Orlando Magic (damn the Southeast is so weak)
4. Philadelphia 76ers (Brand, Iguodala, Andre Miller, damn dawg)
5. Toronto Raptors (they are stacked, homie, stacked)
6. Milwaukee Bucks (They got RJeff, and I know this is high, but Luke Ridnour's a good PG, plus Michael Redd is healthy)
7. Miami Heat (YEEEEEA dawg, gotta have hope that Beasley will begin providing near the middle of the season)
8. Cleveland Cavaliers (they finally got a PG, but they're still the Cavs; LBJ can't carry them)

WEST

1. Los Angeles Lakers (Bynum healthy all year, LO as a 6th man? That's wealth)
2. New Orleans Hornets (CP3's the real deal, and he's got shooters and big men...)
3. Utah Jazz (their division is soft, so they get top spot)
4. San Antonio Spurs (same, steady Spurs)
5. Houston Rockets (Artest is gonna go crazy in H-town; Yao and McGrady will be out for at least 20 games each)
6. Los Angeles Clippers (They look reallllly good this year; imagine if Brand didn't lie)
7. Portland Trailblazers (it'll take too long for Oden to get adjusted to the NBA, but when he does, they'll go on a few 10-game tears)
8. Dallas Mavericks(not to be confused with McCain/Palin)

Lakers fan here, but not a big NBA fan so I won't try to predict the playoffs because I don't know/care enough about the other teams.

I had this epic predictions post crafted with little summaries like yours Heat....and my damn PC crashed. I'm too lazy to retype it all.

I will say, that the above post by Tlock is typical of a Lakers fan ^^^.

Needless to say, I'm a Sixers nut and it's clouded my judgement - I have them winning the East and put the Pistons waay lower than you. I think they're cooked. Celtics will be okay....but the Posey loss is huge and Allen and Garnett HAVE to fall off in production. Pierce too. Their season was like the perfect culmination of every thing at once and I don't see it happening again. Plus, I still think Doc Rivers is a douche.

I don't think the JO trade will change things that much.....that fucker has been mailing it in the past couple years anyway. I hope Beasly is all that you want him to be.....it's an awesome pairing with Wade.

My West list was very similar tho. CP3 is the man. Ogden won't change to conference just yet.

i think u mean oden, and yeah i agree about jo, but hes in a much better situation now, torontos pretty stacked

Haha....damn, yah. I just finished booking a trip to Ogden, Utah this morning....haha. I hate when that happens.

I still haven't forgiven the NBA for the Seattle incident though. Ok. City Thunder? WTF is that?

The JO trade was actually pretty good for both teams (which rarely happens) but I just think he's a shell of his former self. Playing with Bosh should help....but it's insane that he's pulling down almost 20 mil per year. His numbers last year were terrible.

beastley
10-21-2008, 12:15 PM
their bigs are pretty formidable, though.

bosh
o'neal
bargnani off the bench(good perimeter player)
jamario moon can play
and they picked up roy hibbert, who is strong fundamentally

i seriously think they have a really good roster

not to mention calderon at point and anthony parker(candace's brother) at sg/sf...kapono off the bench for instant 3s

im not sure about this, but...

are college players the ones who go on to play in the nba?

true, but they are playing to get into the NBA and the vast majority of college will not be drafted or considered for the nba. those players are playing for their school and pride.

clippers fan here and was very disappointed to hear that Baron may need surgery on his hand that would keep him out for about a month. But a starting lineup of baron, eric gordon (even though I'm not sold on him yet, but cuttino is old as shit), al thornton, camby, and chris caveman is about as solid as we've ever had.

I'll put up my predictions a little bit later when I've got some time to go over the teams, but of course the Clippers are finishing first.

beastley
10-22-2008, 11:31 PM
i dont have the clips making the playoffs, because lets be serious, even though some talent has moved east, the west seems to get stronger each year.

portland's fully healthy this yr, and the hornets are buzzing(sorry) and the lakers, spurs, rockets, etc just seem too good for the clips to get an edge in...

i dont even know if the mavs will make it. i surely dont see the suns getting in

imnotlistening2u
10-23-2008, 01:11 AM
you've got em as your 6 seed in your predictions though. Now you're just backtracking. You're right about Portland, and all the buzz up here in the NW is really starting to make it feel like the Trailblazers are going to have a big year.

The clippers just need to beat 7 teams from the west, to get into the playoffs, and I'm pretty sure they can finish ahead of :

Sacramento (too young)
T-Wolves (waaay too young)
Thunder (too young, but KD, green, and russell could make them relevant soon)
Golden State (can that team hold it together without BD and monta out for a while?)
Memphis (getting closer)
Phoenix (too old)
Denver (underperformers of the century)

I don't see it at too unlikely of a scenario. And you're right about the West continuing to get stronger, but the Clips definitely did. Baron can play as well as any PG in the west.

I may be a little optimistic (and biased), but I need something to hold on to.

beastley
10-23-2008, 08:18 AM
whoops, yeah ur right, i didnt even pay attn to my own rankings. i agree with my previous self and think they'll make the playoffs, haha. maybe i just felt like disagreeing with u, or maybe i was really tired. either way, my bad.

ps. u gotta feel bad for melo(even though hes part of the problem). unlike wade and bron bron, he still hasn't made it even past the first round of the playoffs, and the nuggets dont even have a plan in place to rebuild at all. he looks destined to be a star on a shitty team as long as hes with denver

imnotlistening2u

I agree with you about Melo all the way, He does so well in the international game and thrives even with all the other stars on the team, but in Denver he just can't seem to get his shit straight.

and Chris Kaman is definitely the creepiest player in the league. I agree 100%, but he has shown great improvement.

I dunno about Kaman.....are you speaking merely of his looks? I could see if your stoned he might mess with your head in a Sam Cassel kinda way.

But creepy in a quirky kinda way.....you gotta go with Gilbert. C'mon the dude travels with an oxygen tent and tickles Antawn's armpit before every game outta OCD like behavior. Gotta respect that.

Did you guys see his youtube clip where he shoots all those 3's (one handed) in a competition with Stevenson?

Gilbert is a little quirky, though, i'll give you that. Although I'd never want Charlie Villanueva's hairless body anywhere near me

back to the subject at hand. I think the top two rookie of the year contenders very well could be from the same team. I could easily see Rudy Fernandez and Oden go 1 and 2, respectively, in the voting. That's right, you heard it here, Rudy Fernandez = ROY

ocdude
11-05-2008, 10:09 AM
rudy fernandez ROY? you guys must be stupid..for someone like that who comes off the bench to win is absurd..im takin the obvious pick, d rose. greg oden is not gonna be healthy enough to play a full season. if fernandez were to start i'd give him serious consideration based on how he played in the olympics.

how about some smack talk..i think my lakers and hornets will be the last two standing in the west, and if you guys care to disagree give me some valid reasons. in the east i think the raptors cavs magic and of course boston will be there at the end. i need to see the sixers play a bit more till i judge them, but so far they are lookin good.

mvp= chris paul or kobe bryant
def player= dwight howard
6th man=lamar odom

beastley
12-05-2008, 11:12 PM
it said zephyrs because the nba likes to make up bullshit reasons to sell extra jerseys.

ie having a replica, a swingman, an authentic, a replithentic, and whatever else the fuck kind of jersey to sell.

theres really no aesthetic or athletic value to having players play in jerseys with embroidered numbers or letters, but the value to being able to charge more is what the nba and nfl and shit love.

back in the day, im positiv they didnt play with embroidered jerseys.

We could def use a high seed, give the young guys a chance to develop (or Blatche a chance to prove hes just not gonna make the leap) and get Haywood and Arenas healthy.

yeah, i read it. dont know i like their idea. its good if youre a casual fan, but if my Wiz had absolutely no shot of winning against an all-star team then i would lose interest like i did this year. every small market team would be out of contention.

some teams just have bad luck, but simmons acts like running a team is just common sense with no luck or skill involved. Plus, look how fun OKC or Portland is gonna be next year. i have no problem watching young guys carry crappy teams. plus they help out for fantasy bball.

make the rookie contracts longer and cheaper and it will be alright.

understood - but the egregious tanking over the past few seasons has been horrible and that would certainly curtail some of that.

small market teams will then be forced to make shrewder moves/deals.....not count on a draft bailout? and shitty owners won't be positively rewarded for being dickwads....and selfishly, I won't have to watch mediocre sixer teams year after year, getting trounced in the first round of the playoffs....mired in nowhere land....if they somehow get an awesome draft pick?

my bad for taking so long to respond...

i dont think teams tank that bad anymore. the wiz kinda did...but it was kinda smart to not push arenas after all those knee surgeries. it wasnt as bad as it was like 2 years ago when like almost every team like shut down their star player and killed my fantasy playoffs.

and i think for the most part that most teams try. (at least pre-recession). that sports guy talk about crappy gms is mostly just hype for him to have an angle. there are so many variables that go into running a team and getting players. the "trendy" strategy is always changing to follow whoever won but you cant always change directions that quickly.

and to have the lakers, heat, ny, and the celtics drafting high every year just isnt good for the league. its good if you are in those towns, but not if you are in the ones that cant pull the big free agents. i pretty much stopped watching baseball bc my O's arent competitive (theres an example of an owner that doesnt try). parity is important- just ask the NFL.

plus i enjoy having the good players on a crappy team for a couple years for fantasy purposes. i personally dont like watching the lakers and heat and suns and celtics 20 games a year. id rather watch portland, memphis, minn, or the okc. teams with young players allowed to just play, not have to play second fiddle and be a piece of the puzzle. its also better for fantasy bball.

and i actually like the sixers, they have some great pieces. and i disagree with the sports guy about brand, and I think he could get them further. they are fun without him but it is obvious they are going nowhere. they are also the perfect example of why the draft works- make good picks near the bottom (igudola, young), pick up important piece by trading fading star (miller), sign some qauality late round guys (carney, williams, speights, smith) and have some defense (evans and dalembert- who is def overpaid admittedly, and smith- mentioned him twice bc i really liked what he did). then just when they are on the verge...sign an allstar- brand.

there is much more hope for your sixers then my wiz.

and in the end, with the salary structure the way it is, its impossible for small market clubs to get stars without either drafting them or trading for them with draft picks. otherwise it will be the yankees and the red sox in the nba every year.

actually some very good points in there, I can't argue....and you're O's inclusion was killer....nobody gives a fuck about them or the Pirates.

but I think I'm a star-gazing sports fag. I liked watching MJ kick ass and I'd liked watching Shaq, Kobe, the Glove and the Mailman play together....even though I hated them all. As a business model, I like parity....but it's boring to me. I like to see dominance over teams beating each other up for .500 records. Which is perhaps tied to my strap-on sex fetish but whatever.

I dunno what I'm even saying anymore. I do know that the Magic actually play like a team and yet they bore me. Hedo Turkoglu is way uglier than Sam Cassell too.

Oh and fuck you for unloading Eddie Jordan on my team.

I heard Ed Snider (the owner) waxing poetic about this guy being the perfect fit for the team and blah blah but fuck that....he sucked w/ the Kings and he sucked w/ the Nets (197-224 lifetime).

This team is destined for another miserable 1st round exit (and draft day no-mans land) an Elton Brand injury and another season of experts jerking off to Sam Dalembert's potential.

What do people think of Allen Iverson starting at the all-star game?

I think he doesn't deserve it based on his play this year but the fans voted him there so he should start. Otherwise why do fan voting? If the NBA wants to stop stuff like that, they should nominate fewer players for the fan ballots.

Miami is not the choice I would have made if I were him but I have to say that was the least egotistical place he could have played. He somewhat put his ego aside to play with 2 other big name players. They need some more role players though. The minute Wade blows his knee out and Bosh starts putting up 8 pts, 3 rebounds LBJ wont be any better off than he was in Cleavland.

also I am calling it, in like 2 years Bosh is going to start having some Terrel Owens type drama going on.

They made a really good point on espn. They said that in chosing miami, he has given up the potential to be the next kobe or jordan and he will more likely be the next magic. That's fine and all though.... I think the heat are going to be a hell of a team with him there. They were already really good. I'm just hoping the lakers finish up this three-peat next year. After that, I think the heat will most likely be the team to beat. I can respect that he made the choice to be part of a team, not a superstar. I just, again, wish he had chosen an older team. I know there are a lot of lebron haters out there, but facts are facts. he's a monster player and as much as i love my lakers, i'm excited to watch his career.

I don't know how I feel about the Heat. LeBron should have gone to New York, but it's his choice. I hope that Heat fans aren't expecting too much from Chris Bosh. After 7 years watching him in Toronto, I can say he needs the ball to be effective and he's not a great rebounder or defender. His skills won't translate to playing with 2 wing players like Kevin Garnett's did.

It's obviously not the same suit. Although it does appear to be a bit of bad luck that the colors are exactly the same but at least Lebron ties his tie in a Full Winsor knot (or double Winsor if you prefer) which always looks stellar IMO. Chris' knot is an example of why using the "Four in hand" knot yields shitty results and makes you look like a 6th grader.

this lebron coming back to cleveland thing was a huge let down.
the fans couldnt even be energetic and boo for more than half the game,
i mean, i know the cavs suck, but i figured the fans would be able to keep up the anti lebron energy.

I would agree with you, but after watching my Cavs suck LeBron's dick before and during the game, it became apparent that basketball is for suckers. I'm not wasting another moment of my time with it.

^^^ it's amazing to me how they've turned against this guy. I just got off the courts and the majority of the crowd was raggin' on a kid in a LeBron jersey so hard that he took it off.
Overexposure or whatever, he's an amazing talent - and we live in a world of haters if this guy is getting worse treatment than most of the real trash.

How do you think they will do now that they added Bibby?

beastley
03-01-2011, 10:59 AM
I've always liked Bibby as a player, just too bad he's kind of over the hill...but definitely he's a much bigger upgrade over Chalmers/Arroyo. I want to like Chalmers, but he's done absolutely nothing after a very solid 1st year in the NBA. So, if nothing else, Bibby allows Wade and Bron to play off a real PG.

And hopefully he can find Bosh in the middle, so that idiot will drive instead of settling for 20-ft jumpers every game. We gotta drop a few players, and I'm assuming Arroyo or Magloire are out. We may even get Murphy, which is cool, because he's still good, but I dunno how he fits.

beastley
03-04-2011, 10:11 PM
Damn, this is one of the worst parts about being a Heat fan. Even though I've been through shitty teams and terrible records, this year and every year we have Lebron, no one will pity us...in fact, the opposite, everyone fucking hates us. This sucks.

And the team is playing with zero defensive intensity, which translates to terrible, disjointed offense. We still have a chance of keeping our wits, but tonight's game against the Spurs and then the Bulls is just exposing our mental weaknesses.

Fucking heat.

beastley
04-17-2011, 05:09 PM
Anyone following the playoffs? Playoffs? Playoffs? (props if u got that)

I know the spurs and lake show lost already, but its pretty ridiculous to bury them and their season after ONE game.

Most "fans" are so reactionary, its sad. I'm happy the heat won against philly, but if we had dropped game 1(very possible), i wouldn't have soiled myself. usually the better teams win out, and every once in a while, golden state runs over dallas(although, shit dallas is a joke pretty much every year)

so, with that: anyone watching? i missed the spurs game, which was supposedly great, and was hoping the pacers wouldnt fall apart, but the bulls ate em up at the end.

Should be a fun one with all the expectations so many teams have.

I also think if orlando gets past da hawks, that they can beat chicago. And will.

pympton
04-26-2011, 05:51 PM
I'm kind of following them. NBA really isn't my thing. Boston looks like Boston... again. They were saving themselves for the playoffs. Then again, they did beat the Knicks, so that really isn't saying a lot.

Miami looks like it let the 76'ers win one so that they could finish the series back in South Beach.

The Spurs and Lakers don't look good at all. Spurs look OLD! and the Lakers look like they are tired and not on the same page.

How great would it be if both the Spurs and Lakers lost in the first round? I have an East coast bias, what can I say?

beastley
04-26-2011, 07:06 PM
I still see the Heat getting to the Finals...and if the Lakers are there, well that would be ratings gold for Stern and the NBA, but ur right, they look listless....but they can most def get past the Hornets...i think OKC is looking great, but theyre probably a yr away from REALLY contending.

As far as the Celts go, they still did sweep the knicks, which counts for something, but lets not forget the knicks really should have won at least one of those games if not for being so inept at the end of the game....

And as far as the heat go, SO much is made of our late game issues, which i concede, is a problem, but when it happens against teams like the sixers, u think to urself, it never should have gotten to that point. WE should be blowing them out and not even letting them hang around....

if we get past boston, we should have a clear path to the finals. i didnt think it'd be this easy, but the c's are showing their age, the bulls are who we thought they were!, and i really think the hawks make it to the EC Finals anyway

I think its the Hawks who will show us "THEY ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!" Which is choking dogs who quit when things get tough. Joe Johnson will eventually disappear (its what he's good at) and the Bulls will move on and prove to be a formidable opponent for the Heatles.

However it plays out this has been an incredible NBA playoffs and this Heat/C's series is awesome.

Heat fan FWIW

ehh both teams are pretty soft...what's surprised me most about this playoffs is there is no one dominant team. the heat could be, but haven't gotten it all together yet. although next year, i fully expect them to dominate the reg season and the playoffs....

but C's really miss kendrick, i dont care what the analysts or whoever else says...even if he doesnt add pts or defense, just BEING there would make a diff.

Btw rondo reallly looks out of it, like he doesnt give a fuck at all. It's weird, doe, bc the celtics have always been known for being a tight team.

Anyway, i just hope the bulls lose so all the fans coming out of the woodwork can shut the fuck up. I also think they have a great future, if they can grab a SG and boozer gets it together. Bulls/Heat/Knicks(maybe) should be a fun rivalry coming soon to a playoffs near you....I just keep wondering where Howard goes. Indiana could definitely use him, and he'd make them a contenda, too

i think this series has just confirmed that the bulls are a scorer away from really contending. as a gator, i wanna root for joakim, but i just cant, and it sucks....but they really gotta find another scorer. i even think rose moved to the 2 spot and picking up a quality PG somewhere else like Mo Williams? or some other solid pg who thinks pass-first, would definitely help them.

i dont care what no one thinks, the heat are winning this series thru defense---solid, team defense. and for all the hullabaloo about chicago having the best defense all season, miami was number 2, and only by like .5 more pts given up...so it's a wash. spo has made all the adjustments, and the bulls are headed home for good.

really fun series, though, i cant wait till next season when the heat/bulls/knicks(maybe?) and another good east team duke it out for supremacy...east is rising again, with that fun, rock em sock em tough d and grind em out games
