View Full Version : Why do people have kids?

Randal Graves

I just don't get it. If thought about logically I don't see how anyone can say kids don't ruin lives. Kids are expensive and they will ruin a chick's figure. Does anyone have a reason other than the typical "kids are a blessing BS"? I know kids suck b/c I know how much damn money & trouble I caused my parents.

I usually tell young couples to just get a dog.
It'll tie you down almost as much, and cause enough grief you won't NEED a child.
The plus side is you can always sell a dog, or abandon it on the highway.
Kids you're stuck with for at least 18 or so years - if you're lucky.

People have kids because their lives lack meaning and they think that this is the logical next step - to have something that depends on you and can't leave you.

It's a chick thing, when they realize they are tired of being drunken sluts and want to settle down but if they weren't so expensive and such a commitment - dudes would be all about having as many kids possible because it's some animal instinct shit.....

Thats why being a deadbeat dad is so cool...you can still build a race in your image and not cost you a dime - you just have to deal with them when they hunt you down and resent you and bring you on Oprah to confront you...but being on Oprah is kind of a dream of mine...

I had children because I felt that I'd be a good father and have a lot to offer in the areas of knowledge and skills to teach and share. That and I wished to keep my last name alive.

Worst logic ever.....

Studies say it costs 250k to raise a kid from 0-17 which is about 14k a year. So you're either a terrible parent who keeps his kid locked in a cage while spending 10 bucks a week to feed it cat food. Or, that 3k tax credit is costing you 14k a year for a negative cash flow of 11k.

No I was being a tad sarcastic. I am a single dad so we don't get to spend 14k a year. Those studies are for people in a higher tax bracket, not mine. The tax credit is nice but not the best reason to have children.

I'm 31. The wife is 30. We spent the first 8 years of our marriage making sure we REALLY didn't want kids. She hates what it would do to her body. I like to work too much. We're both just selfish people, but at least we realize that. I talked to a Dr. client of mine a few months ago and was told for zero money (thank you Blue Cross) and about 15 minutes of my time, he can make sure there are no accidents. Gotta love modern medicine.

We have a dog. When he acts up, we can put him in the back yard for hours at a time with nobody calling Social Services. We also don't have to worry about baby sitters, clothes, social BS, shitty schools.......

Just my 2 cents on the little bastards....

I was the same way for a long time, but when my son came out and looked at me I was done for. My life took drastic and dramatic turns the moment I realized that he, and later my daughter, needed me to be a better person.

People have kids becaue of narcissism. I am not going to act like I wont be there one day. But people's nature is to want to keep their name/likeness ongoing.

Who is ever really ready? The only way I see it happening is an unplanned one and I have to grow up and adapt.

I just thought people had kids cause of hormones. That's why my aunty had one, she was all broody.

And I agree with RvP, if I wasn't going to get disgusting urges to reproduce when I'm about 25, I would totally adopt a pretty baby and live through him or her.

Why would you want to live your life through your child? I don't get that shit where people have to push their kids to succeed because of their failures. If your life isn't something to be proud of don't have a kid. Go out and fix your shitty life if you feel so unfullfilled.

It kills me when people view their own lives as being so empty that the only way they will have a legacy is by either getting knocked up or knocking somebody up. If your existence is so shallow that the greatest thing you can achieve in your entire lifetime is procreating, then you really need to re-evaluate what you really want out of life. The percentage of people out there that cannot grasp the concept that growing older does not equal reproducing baffles me.

not bad for a n00b. Pandas are the only creatures on Earth who are too dumb to procreate. It's not that big of an accomplishment.

People have kids because people forget to pull out or the chick does not like the taste of cum. "Don't pop on my back or hair, I just took a shower!" she says. "Well I have no dirty t-shirts or boxers to nut in.O.O.OOOOOOOO." He says. Who would have thought that 5 or 6 margeritas and a little debate on were my little swimmers go would lead to a couple of poop machines. Fucking karma.

nothing irritates me worse than watching some parent at the ice rink getting out of control over their 8 year olds game. i used to coach squirts and i got out of it just because i couldnt bare to watch some asshole berate their child for how they played. i feel lucky that my parents let me try the sports and activities i wanted to do and never pressured me, i think it made me excel in the long run at what i liked doing.

I took my final this morning and I swear to God that my test had this exact question on it. "Describe the cultural differences of why people have children.".... I laughed to myself thinking about this thread....

We (me and her) had a child because we wanted to, i can understand some of the arguments on here, but when it comes down to it we all have our reasons for and against.

Don't get me wrong.... If you really want to have a kid, and your not doing it for the reasons of "i just think they're so cute" or "i didn't get to be a cheerleader or play football, and a kid will let me live that dream", then have at it.

However, I see a lot of people who have the kid because they really want one, then dump it off in day care, at the grandparents, with baby sitters, etc... and they barely spend any time with it. When i want a new toy or a gadget and i get bored with it, there are really no repercussions. When you do that with a kid, you usually end up with a little reprobate running around.

I do agree with you here, I know several parents that do this...and then HAVE MORE KIDS...makes no sense to me

You're right and, without sounding like a fucking politician or a church leader, in my opinion thats whats wrong with the world today. Too many people looking for an excuse and not enough taking responsibility for their actions.

Christ, I sound like i'm about 80.
