I'll do my best. This madness starts here today, the place is simply buzzing with anticipation. In true South African style, people are going apeshit, even in the small town we live in. Not near a stadium to watch, but you can feel it. Now that it's almost underway, there should be a lot more stuff to post.

My post above, the first few pics were of the SA team Bafana Bafana being parade for fans in Sandton, Johannesburg a couple of days ago.
You may notice a trumpet looking instrument, called a Vuvuzela (vuvu-zehla).
That thing is freakin loud. I am sure if you saw a broadcast of an international friendly from SA you would have seen/heard it.

Today, as in all other fridays before, we get all dressed up and fly the flags, blow the vuvuzelas and act like madmen. I'll post a few pics later after I get home (now 5h35 am) from work. Oh freakin yes I am taking off early to watch the opening ceremony and SA vs Mexico on telly.

South Africa the underdogs held Mexico to a 1-1 draw, having scored the first goal in the second half followed by a soft goal from Mexico.

Not be hating, just think it's fanny-assed that it takes 40 000 plus soccer fans to make a song work, rather leave it to the talented singers. Unlike the disappointing USA England game. What a plonker!!

I guess each country/region celebrates/chants/makes a noise in their own unique way. The vuvuzela is based on a traditional instrument used by tribes for celebration. So it's a cultural thing.

Besides, I was a little intoxicated. Didn't mean to hate. ;)

World Cup organising chief Danny Jordaan has revealed he may consider banning vuvuzelas from the tournament.

The sound of the trumpet-like instruments has droned through every match since the competition got under way in South Africa on Friday.

Singing from the stands has generally been drowned out as a consequence and Jordaan, the chief executive of the World Cup organising committee, admits action may have to be taken.

France playmaker Yoann Gourceff has blamed the vuvuzelas as one reason for their poor 0-0 draw with Uruguay and his captain Patrice Evra said he has been woken up by the vuvus at 6 am.

BULLSHIT!! You can't blame poor football on the fans, dumb fuck!!

But Evra also told French television that "the trumpets are a tradition in the country (South Africa). You can't start criticising them now."

Exactly. Get out of the kitchen if you can't handle the heat. Try coming to the country and experience the vibe a bit earlier next time. Arriving 6 days beforehand won't frikkin help you, MF's.

World football supremo Joseph Blatter has also defended the vuvuzelas as part of the unique African atmosphere ever since it made first big waves at the Confederations Cup last year.

Well at least someone has a brain!!

yes, but again the better team won. maradona showed his impressive coaching skills with horrible replacements. he still won though...

Can't help but think that it would have been a different display from Mexico if the goal was ruled out. It really took the fight out of them.

Fifa bans video replays. Fifa is to prevent referees from using video replays to overturn decisions.

Because Blatter doesn't want to admit he's made an arse of it.

this has always been part of the game, this time england/mexico were on the wrong side of the gun. too bad for them

want to change the rules? fine, but not in the middle of the competition

I appreciate that but Blatter is a twat. Almost every other sport can advance with technology with minimal disruption to the game. They can change rules left, right and centre about run-ups to penalties, pass-backs, simulation, the list goes on, but he won't keep up with the times. Goal line technology has been a contentious issue long before the Lampard/Tevez 'goals'. Something should have been done before now.

Did I mention that I think he's a twat?

he`s a dick too

on the technology thing, well, i`m not sure... maybe a game with full camera coverage wouldn`t be as fun

Blatter is a retarded, corrupt old cunt who only stays in his position cause he has friends in high places and lots of money for bribes.

My fish's opinion on Football is more valid then his.
