...from Wikipedia: My Name Is Buddy: Another Record by Ry Cooder is a social-political concept album by Ry Cooder. Cooder has described it as the second in a trilogy that began with Chávez Ravine and which he plans to continue with a future album.[2] The album is packaged in a small booklet that includes a brief story and drawing to accompany each song. Both the songs and the stories relate tales from the viewpoint of the characters, Buddy Red Cat, Lefty Mouse, and Reverand Tom Toad. The liner notes ask listeners/readers to join them as they "Journey through time and space in days of labor, big bosses, farm failures, strikes, company cops, sundown towns, hobos, and trains... the America of yesteryear."

...from Wikipedia: Chávez Ravine: A Record By Ry Cooder is a concept album and historical album by Ry Cooder which tells the story of Chávez Ravine, a Mexican-American community demolished in the 1950s in order to build public housing. The housing was never built. Ultimately the Brooklyn Dodgers built a stadium on the site as part of their move to Los Angeles.
Chávez Ravine received a Grammy nomination for "Best Contemporary Folk Album" in 2006.

This album has the distinction of being the first album to be recorded totally digital. Revolutionary for 1979, it set the tone for a long time and pretty much became the standard, until more recently people started to realize the warmer analog sounds were more pleasant to the ears.

I coulda swore there was a John Hiatt thread, but couldn't find it, so I'll post in all. This was a big album to me, as a huge Hiatt fan growing up.
Don't expect it will appeal to everyone, but solid for those who'll get it.

1992- Little Village

Little Village was formed in 1992 by Ry Cooder (guitar, vocal), John Hiatt (guitar, piano, vocal), Nick Lowe (bass, vocal) and Jim Keltner (drums). This group of musicians had previously worked together as a unit -- albeit not under the Little Village name - recording the John Hiatt solo album, Bring The Family in 1987.
Upon reconvening in 1992, the group's name was initially (and jokingly) announced as Hiatus. It was soon changed to Little Village in reference to a famous in-studio diatribe by Sonny Boy Williamson II.
Little Village recorded their first and last proper group album in mid-1992. The self-titled record featured a set of songs composed by all four group members. The songs were largely sung by Hiatt, although Lowe took lead on two songs and Cooder one.
